• 1/2 LB boneless pork loin cut into cubes
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 /2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • Olive oil
  • 1 large butternut squash - peeled, deseeded, cooked until soft then mashed OR 1 quart of prepared, organic squash soup
  • 1 cup mashed sweet potatoes - either fresh cooked until tender or canned that have been drained and washed
  • 1 medium apple (any variety) peeled, cored and cut into small cubes
  • 1/2 - 2+ cups low sodium chicken broth
  • Nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger (to taste)

Cut boneless pork into small cubes. Coat the meat with a mixture of flour, salt and pepper. Brown cubed meat in olive oil until evenly colored. Does not have to be fully cooked, just browned.

In crockpot, add either the butternut squash that you have cooked and mashed OR the prepared squash soup. If you use fresh butternut squash, you will want to add more chicken broth to achieve the thickness of the soup you desire. If you use prepared soup, you may only wish to use a small amount of the stock to achieve a consistency you enjoy. Add mashed sweet potato, and chopped apples and the browned pork. Add additional spices to taste.

Because most of these ingredients have been pre-cooked separately, time in the crockpot is mainly to finish cooking the pork and bring all flavors together. Approx. 4 - 5 hours. Check to make sure pork is cooked completely before serving.

Garnish your finished soup with roasted pumpkin seeds, plain yogurt, parsley or croutons. All of these garnishes your dog can enjoy as well.

FOR YOUR PETS:  This soup may be served by itself or on top of kibble or rice or noodles.

HOW MUCH TO FEED:  Follow the general guidelines provided on the food you already feed them. Size, age, and activity levels are all factors that determine how much you should feed your pets. If you are unsure, your veterinarian will help you determine the proper amount.
